RECREATION SUPERVISOR - SPECIAL EVENTS

A 3.5% salary increase is scheduled for July 1, 2024.

The selected candidate will be a visible contributor to the success of the Community Services Department. The selected candidate will supervise and coordinate assigned recreation programs, activities and operations within the Community Services Department.  The selected candidate will provide assistance to the Director of Community Services and coordinate activities with City staff, outside agencies, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Direct the development, planning, coordination and operations for special events and special projects.

  • Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities for community programs, services, events, and activities for various ages.

  • Supervise, monitor and schedule the use of City recreation and park facilities for events; assist with or enforce established rules of facility use and participant conduct.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for providing community and recreation services; recommend and administer policies and procedures.

  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identify resource needs; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.

  • Direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for assigned services and activities; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.

  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate recreation staff and volunteers; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures. 

  • Participate in the development and administration of assigned program budget; forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, contracted services, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; recommend adjustments as necessary.

  • Serve as a liaison with school districts, community organizations and government organizations; prepare and deliver effective oral presentations to civic, social, and business groups; consult with business, school officials, social and service groups and the public regarding programs and facilities; respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints from interested participants and community groups.

  • Maintain and review records of schedules, program participation, monies received, expenditures, accidents, vandalism, and contract programs; prepare and submit a variety of reports and memoranda on related subjects.

  • Evaluate community needs and interests; prepare community surveys; meet with individuals, community groups, and school officials to assure that facilities, programs and activities are meeting changing needs of the community; recommend new recreation programs and events to meet community needs.
